Music
Music thrives at Bishop’s Stortford College, and pupils of all ages enthusiastically take part. The lively musical life of the school includes seven choirs, four bands, eight ensembles, and four orchestras. More than 50 concerts take place each year, showcasing pupils’ talents — from the popular house competitions and the Big Band concert to the highlight of the year: the Open-Air Summer Live Music event. Twenty visiting music teachers offer tuition in 17 different instruments, and pupils can also work towards the prestigious examinations of Trinity College London and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Sport
Sport is another standout feature of Bishop’s Stortford College. Excellent facilities and professional coaching create the ideal environment for active young sportspeople. The campus boasts a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, a modern fitness suite, two all-weather pitches, a sports hall, and ten outdoor courts. Alongside core sports such as swimming, rugby, and tennis, water polo is growing increasingly popular. The College also offers a Performance Sports Programme for particularly ambitious athletes, providing additional training, coaching from professional and international players, nutritional advice, and tailored strength and conditioning plans. Sixth Formers can also gain a qualification in Sports Leadership as part of the Sixth Form Award.
Academics
The College’s aim is to prepare pupils for a happy and successful life beyond school. To this end, it has developed the unique Sixth Form Award, a programme that encourages pupils to engage individually. In partnership with the Careers and Higher Education team, students are guided to take part in activities both inside and outside the classroom — including external accreditations such as the Mini MBA – Master of Business Administration. Around 97% of graduates secure places at their first-choice universities, helped by consistently strong A-level results: in 2023, 41% of grades were A*–A.
Drama
From the Drama Society to the Stage Tech Club, the College’s thriving theatre scene offers something for everyone. Pupils can attend workshops with visiting artists, and Sixth Formers can take classes and exams through the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). Throughout the year, the College stages a variety of productions — from classical plays to musicals — and student-led shows are also highly valued. Every two years, students travel to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to create, produce, and perform an original piece of theatre — an unforgettable experience.
