Bloxham School is a friendly all-rounder with plenty of British charm. Alongside a rich programme of sports and leisure activities, it is especially renowned for its outstanding music and theatre offerings.

Nestled near the university city of Oxford in Oxfordshire, Bloxham places great emphasis on personal development. Here, young, happy souls truly flourish. The creative arts are particularly impressive, with music and theatre lovers fully in their element. Around 95 percent of the student body is British, so it’s no surprise that the sound of British accents fills the corridors while international students thrive in a traditionally English environment.

Bloxham School in Detail

Music and Theatre

Bloxham is particularly well-known for its excellent music and theatre programmes. With eight productions a year, numerous practice rooms, its own recording studio, and an orchestra, no creative wish is left unfulfilled. We were also especially impressed by the school’s own radio station, Bloxham School Sound, which is run entirely by the students. Budding artists can also explore their talents in art, design, and textiles in quirky attic studios that feel like authentic creative workshops.

Sport

Students regularly compete in international competitions, and the school boasts a world champion in shooting and a national champion in clay pigeon shooting. Bloxham has twice been crowned national schools champion in Eventing, and the boys’ rugby team recently reached a national semi-final. Riding is a hugely popular activity here — horse lovers can even bring their own horses. The facilities include netball and tennis courts, a rugby pitch, a swimming pool, two squash courts, a sports hall, a fitness room, sailing opportunities, and climbing walls — something for everyone.

Academics

We find the academic programme impressively varied. Students can choose from more than 20 A-level subjects, with Maths and Business Studies particularly popular, but English, Geography, and even Computer Science are also on offer. Modern languages include Spanish, French, and Latin. The examination results speak for themselves, with 48 percent of A-level grades awarded at A. A distinctive feature is the Eunoia Society (from ancient Greek for “beautiful thinking”), which not only prepares students for applications to Oxford or Cambridge but also offers a rich programme of cultural outings to exhibitions, operas, and ballets.

Leisure and Community

From astronomy club to film, reading, coding, and even a wine club for sixth-formers, there are no limits to intellectual and physical horizons. Animal lovers will delight in the school’s resident pets, which include snakes, lizards, and crabs — quite exotic, we think! Throughout it all, Bloxham remains refreshingly down-to-earth and proud of its exceptional pastoral care. Every student is supported by a personal tutor throughout their time at the school, helping them grow as individuals. Senior students are also always on hand to lend a sympathetic ear.

Conclusion Bloxham School

However, it is by no means the only school in Britain offering outstanding sports and academic opportunities. We strongly recommend exploring a range of English boarding schools before making a decision. Please feel free to contact us for advice. Thanks to years of close contact with the schools, we understand their individual strengths and can give you an authentic assessment.

We’re confident that together we can find the right school for your child.

You can find an overview on our Boarding Schools in England page.

Take advantage of:

  • authentic insights from first-hand experience
  • our excellent relationships with admissions offices
  • years of experience in school placements
  • support with visa questions

What Makes Akademis Stand Out?

  • We remain your trusted contact throughout your child’s stay, well beyond the placement process.
  • We provide support with guardianshipvisa applications and recognition of qualifications within the German school system.
  • We offer fully tailored advice. Our school recommendations are unique to each child and can run to 40 pages in length.
  • Families receive our 30+ page boarding school guide, packed with practical tips and insights.
  • We prepare your child thoroughly for entrance exams and interviews to maximise their chances of success.
  • We arrange school visits, ensuring you have the opportunity to experience each school first-hand.

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.

Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.

Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.

We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
