Brentwood School – Where Tradition Meets Excellence

Set amidst beautiful parkland with direct access to London, Brentwood School offers a truly inspiring environment where learning becomes a lifelong joy. It is widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading independent schools.

Academic excellence lies at the heart of life at Brentwood, but pupils are equally encouraged to develop their sporting abilities and creative talents. This is a school that champions a holistic education, nurturing individual strengths across the board. The new multi-million pound boarding house offers accommodation that is second to none.

Brentwood takes pride in its inclusive, forward-thinking community. Strong values guide every aspect of school life, and although the school’s motto – Virtue, Learning, Manners – was first penned in 1622, its spirit is very much alive today. Musicians, athletes and artists mix freely and support one another.

The setting offers the best of both worlds: a 30-hectare campus full of blossom and greenery, just five minutes’ walk from the centre of Brentwood, and with London’s cultural and academic riches just a short train ride away on the new Elizabeth Line. It’s a place where passions are discovered and nurtured.

Brentwood School in Detail

Academic Excellence

Brentwood’s academic record speaks for itself. In 2023, half of all pupils scored 40 points or more in the IB – placing them among the top 10 percent globally. The school’s superb facilities, including the state-of-the-art Science Centre and the Wessex Auditorium, bring subjects to life through hands-on learning. With over 35 subjects on offer, from Environmental Systems and Food Technology to Mandarin and Film Studies, students are encouraged to explore their interests. Learning is further enriched through an extraordinary trips programme, which might take the pupils from the volcanic landscapes of Iceland to the neon-lit streets of Tokyo. Everybody shares the same campus, but up to Sixth Form, boys and girls are taught separately; in Sixth Form, classes become co-educational.

The Arts

The arts flourish at Brentwood. The visual arts department encourages students to engage with contemporary culture and the beauty of the world around them through drawing, sculpture, photography and video. Drama and dance are hugely popular, and every pupil has the chance to perform in shows and musicals. Brentwood is proud to be a Steinway School, with an exceptional music programme that includes rare instruments. Last year alone, the school hosted an astonishing 107 musical events.

Sport

Sport at Brentwood is both inclusive and elite. With more than 30 sports to try – from fencing and shooting to golf, water polo and aerobics – boredom simply isn’t an option. Around 400 pupils represent the school each Saturday, and many sports feature inter-house competitions as well. The school regularly competes internationally and runs an Elite Player Pathway for its most gifted athletes, many of whom go on to achieve national success.

Beyond the Classroom

Brentwood’s co-curricular offering is as rich as its academic one. Clubs and societies cater to every interest, whether deepening subject knowledge or broadening horizons. There are clubs for astronomy, space science, medicine, creative writing, and film, as well as opportunities in debating, Model United Nations, STEAM, and more. Whether on the stage, the pitch, or in the lab, every student is encouraged to find their place.

What Makes Akademis Stand Out?

  • We remain your trusted contact throughout your child’s stay, well beyond the placement process.
  • We provide support with guardianshipvisa applications and recognition of qualifications within the German school system.
  • We offer fully tailored advice. Our school recommendations are unique to each child and can run to 40 pages in length.
  • Families receive our 30+ page boarding school guide, packed with practical tips and insights.
  • We prepare your child thoroughly for entrance exams and interviews to maximise their chances of success.
  • We arrange school visits, ensuring you have the opportunity to experience each school first-hand.

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.

Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.

Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.

We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
