In a beautiful, secluded rural setting, young people at Gresham’s School can enjoy a first-class education and a varied programme of extracurricular activities. Rumour has it that students here even build their own robots!

Gresham’s is a selective school, which means not every applicant is offered a place. All the more reason for us to be proud that every student we have supported and prepared in recent years has been successfully accepted.

On England’s magnificent east coast, not far from Norfolk, the main building of Gresham’s School stands amidst 80 hectares of parkland, sports facilities, water, and woodland. In this inspiring, welcoming atmosphere, no young person remains a stranger for long.Founded back in 1555, this independent school is still regarded as one of England’s leading institutions.

Modern glass buildings meet Georgian architecture here. In the newly built Dyson Building — a gift from the famous alumnus and inventor James Dyson — the sciences are taught in the most cutting-edge way.

We find it particularly exciting that students can explore technology and engineering hands-on for themselves. The school also shines with its outstanding arts and outdoor programmes, which include an open-air theatre, sailing, and its very own climbing wall.

Gresham’s School in Detail

Creative Arts

From fine art, graphic design, and photography, to 3D design, art lovers can truly flourish at Gresham’s. The opportunities for musicians are just as varied. Young pianists practise here on world-class pianos and with state-of-the-art technology in the All-Steinway Music School. An impressive theatre with an outdoor stage also offers countless opportunities to act and take on different roles — and the same goes for the concert hall. With a wide array of orchestras and music groups, every musician is sure to find a place to feel at home.

Sport

Sports fans won’t be disappointed either: rugby, football, tennis, swimming, and golf are just some of the sports on offer. The gym, rowing machines, athletics, and cross-country running are also very popular. What excites us most is the coastal location, which allows for sailing trips, kayaking, and other water sports. The school also offers riding at a local equestrian centre, and the riding team has even competed in championships and recently qualified for the NSEA National County Championships. For those keen to try something entirely new, the school even has its own shooting range.

Academics

Listing the full breadth of Gresham’s rich academic offering would go beyond the scope here, but a few highlights include essay writing, religion, psychology, theory of knowledge, photography — and of course art and music. There are also unconventional subjects like agriculture and digital music production. The Dyson Building brings together technology, engineering, mathematics, art, and science in a truly interdisciplinary way. The school’s academic excellence is underscored by its 100% A-level pass rate in 2022, with approximately 71% achieving grades A*–B. The school also achieves strong results in the IB diploma.

Leisure and Outdoors

One thing that impresses us particularly is the variety of outdoor opportunities at Gresham’s. It starts with the school’s own outdoor centre, which features an obstacle course and climbing wall for adventurous boys and girls alike.  Whether it’s water sports, mountain biking, or sightseeing trips — here every student can awaken their sense of adventure. The Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh Award offer even more exciting expeditions. In their free time, students can also choose from chess, photography, drama school, community service, or creative writing.

Our Visit

Gresham’s is truly an all-round school — something we can fully confirm after our visit. The large, sprawling campus is genuinely breathtaking. The glass-fronted buildings of the Dyson Building highlight the school’s modern flair. Yes, the students even showed us the robots they had built themselves! But it’s not just technology where Gresham’s excels — this artistically strong school also boasts a state-of-the-art recording studio and its own theatre with an open-air stage. Its woodland location delights every nature lover, and during our tour we also marvelled at the enormous climbing wall — definitely not for the faint-hearted!

Conclusion Gresham’s School

Gresham’s School is a boarding school that is creatively strong. It sits right on the coast.
However, it is by no means the only school in the UK offering excellent arts science and music programmes. We encourage you to explore more English boarding schools. Please feel free to contact us for advice — thanks to our many years of contact with the schools, we know their unique qualities and can give you an authentic assessment. We are confident that together we will find the right boarding school for your child.

You can find an overview on our Boarding Schools in England page.

Benefit from:

  • authentic insights from first-hand experience
  • our excellent relationships with admissions offices
  • years of experience in placements
  • help with visa questions

What Makes Akademis Stand Out?

  • We remain your trusted contact throughout your child’s stay, well beyond the placement process.
  • We provide support with guardianshipvisa applications and recognition of qualifications within the German school system.
  • We offer fully tailored advice. Our school recommendations are unique to each child and can run to 40 pages in length.
  • Families receive our 30+ page boarding school guide, packed with practical tips and insights.
  • We prepare your child thoroughly for entrance exams and interviews to maximise their chances of success.
  • We arrange school visits, ensuring you have the opportunity to experience each school first-hand.

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.

Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.

Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.

We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
