King’s Bruton is a small school that punches above its weight: a superb new music school, rising hockey stars, and a practical approach to education with four BTEC courses and dedicated careers advice including support for apprenticeships.
For over 500 years, the historic King’s Bruton has stood proudly in the idyllic green surroundings of the rural Somerset town of Bruton. Beyond its gates, the school is nationally recognised for outstanding achievements in hockey and rugby. Inside, it combines forward-thinking education with Christian roots, evident in its motto — “With the help of God” — as well as attentive pastoral care and a spiritual mindfulness club.
The small student body allows for highly personalised attention. No child’s well-being or talent is overlooked, the school assures us confidently. This all-rounder impresses not just with its excellent facilities, including the stunning new music school, but also with its hands-on approach to learning.

King’s Bruton in Detail
Academic life
King’s Bruton offers 24 academic subjects and has particular strengths in languages. In addition, it offers four BTEC subjects — Sport, Performing Arts, Hospitality, and Enterprise — designed to prepare students directly for careers. Individuality is encouraged and supported, with considerable freedom of subject choice. To help pupils shape their own futures, the school equips them with essential skills through initiatives such as Personal Finance Training. The Careers and Higher Education Forum supports pupils with mock interviews, information about universities (in the UK and abroad), and advice on apprenticeships.
Sport
King’s Bruton competes nationally in rugby and hockey. Rugby exchange programmes take pupils as far afield as Canada and South Africa. In recent years, the school has become widely known across England for its hockey success. Since the U16 girls’ team became national champions in 2017, the school has consistently ranked among the top four in the country. Tennis is also hugely popular, with over 90 students training weekly — in small groups of no more than four or in one-to-one lessons. Other options include cycling, riding, golf, and yoga. The Athlete Development Programmeoffers aspiring elite athletes mentoring, physiotherapy, guest speakers, performance analysis, and specialist coaching.
The arts
Just in time for its 500th anniversary, the magnificent new music school was inaugurated — by Her Majesty the Queen herself. This state-of-the-art building includes a concert hall, several computer rooms, and an impressive recording studio. The chapel choir is regularly invited to sing Choral Evensong, most recently in St Paul’s Cathedral in London. Pupils showcase their talent in more than 40 concerts each year. The drama department stages several productions annually, welcoming enthusiastic participation both on stage and behind the scenes. Artistic pupils can also join the Art Club or Photography Club, and dance workshops are also on offer.
Co-curricular activities
With some 70 extracurricular activities, King’s Bruton truly has something for everyone. Pupils can try their hand at self-defence, knitting, or join the Lego Club. More unusual offerings include silversmithing and astrophotography. Besides contributing to the school magazine The Dolphin, pupils can also explore audio and video production through The Dolphin Broadcasting Corporation. The King’s Bruton Eco Committee, a pupil-led initiative strongly supported by the school, works towards the Eco Schools Green Flag and is involved in Operation Future Hope, which promotes rewilding of school grounds.

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.
Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.
Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.
We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
