A small, warm-hearted IB school in Scotland that combines academic rigour with exciting outdoor opportunities and outstanding sports provision.
Set in the picturesque coastal town of Helensburgh, not far from the Trossachs National Park, Lomond School is a small but impressive boarding school in the west of Scotland.
With only around 40 students in the Sixth Form, the atmosphere is personal and the pastoral care is exceptional. Located in an elegant residential area of town, the school enjoys strong ties to the nearby Royal Navy base.
Lomond makes full use of its exceptional waterside setting and is a leading Scottish school for outdoor education. Here, students benefit from a broad mix of academic challenge, outdoor adventure, and sport – all underpinned by a distinctly Scottish ethos of global mindedness, environmental awareness, and lifelong learning. Particularly talented athletes can even join the school’s elite sports programme.

Lomond School in Detail
Outdoor Education
Framed between the River Clyde and Loch Lomond, the school offers a superb range of co-curricular activities and a strong commitment to outdoor learning. Whether it’s forest school or fieldwork, every year group gets hands-on with the natural world. Sailing, canoeing, skiing, orienteering and climbing are all part of the experience. Lomond offers both the Scottish Advanced Highers and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Alongside traditional subjects, pupils can explore computing, game design, architecture, or health and food technology. Academic results are strong – in 2021, 71% of pupils achieved an ‘A’ in their Advanced Highers.
The Arts
Creativity flourishes at Lomond. The art, design, music and drama departments are vibrant and inclusive spaces where students build confidence and express themselves freely. Budding musicians can join choirs, the orchestra, saxophone ensembles or the jazz group – and the annual spring music competition gives soloists a chance to shine. The school’s state-of-the-art theatre is also a highlight. Everyone is welcome to get involved in the Senior School production – not just on stage, but behind the scenes too, in lighting, sound, costume, or make-up. Recent productions have included The Addams Family, Grease, High School Musical and Romeo and Juliet.
Sport
Sport is another of Lomond’s strengths – the school proudly counts former Olympic sailors among its alumni. Students take part in rugby, hockey, climbing and more. Nearby facilities include a sports centre, dance studio, climbing wall, gym, indoor cricket nets and even a physiotherapy room. For students with outstanding sporting talent, the Elite Athletes Cluboffers coaching, support and flexibility to help them balance academics and high-level training.
Co-Curricular Life
Outside of the classroom, pupils can join traditional music clubs, the school orchestra or the popular pipe band. Athletics, basketball and badminton are also on offer, as are water sports such as dinghy and keelboat sailing, plus yoga and archery. Expeditions are a much-loved part of life at Lomond – recent trips have included trekking and adventure travel in Tanzania and Morocco, canoeing in Norway and Sweden, and hiking and paddling in the Scottish Highlands. These experiences build character, resilience, and lifelong memories.

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.
Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.
Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.
We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
