Mill Hill School in Detail

Idyllic Campus in London

The park-like school grounds sit atop a hill on the edge of London, offering a truly enviable location. The spectacular view of the surrounding area left us quite speechless. In just 30 minutes, students can reach central London by bus — making regular excursions for sightseeing, shopping and enrichment very easy indeed. The school’s Heritage Garden, too, is well worth a visit. Dedicated to the famous botanist Peter Collinson, who once lived and worked on the site, it still nurtures some of the rare species he introduced to England in the 18th century — much to the delight of today’s biologists.

Extracurricular Life

Not only academically, but also outside of the curriculum, the range on offer is impressive. Sporty students enjoy a swimming pool, numerous playing fields, and dedicated coaches who support them with passion in hockey, netball, rounders, taekwondo, and swimming. If your child is creatively inclined, they can immerse themselves in music, dance, or drama. The school is renowned nationwide for its creative offering. Trips into London and a range of artistic projects are just a few of the ways students’ creativity is sparked. In the Big Idea House Competition, for example, pupils develop innovative projects to improve school life — showcasing their ingenuity in a friendly spirit of competition.

Academics

Today Mill Hill School is part of a network of some of London’s best schools. Despite its long history, this internationally minded school stands out for its forward-thinking approach. The innovative curriculum includes subjects such as Computer Science, Design Technology, and Psychology. The breadth of academic options is truly impressive. Inspiration and motivation here lead to excellent results, and the school is well-known for sending students on to prestigious universities. Nearly half of all students achieve A*–A grades at A-level. Outside regular lessons, enrichment courses are offered in a variety of areas — from body awareness to travel, to cancer awareness.

Instilling Responsibility

The school remains true to its original roots: to develop responsible young people with a global perspective, treating each child as an individual and offering encouragement and support at every level. All sixth formers have the chance to engage in community service. “Pupils make a very positive contribution to the lives of others and to the local community,” writes the ISI inspection team. Community programmes include swimming lessons for children with learning difficulties, serving lunches to elderly residents, and assisting at the nearby Junior School playgrounds. We were especially impressed by the pupil-led computer classes for “mature learners” aged 70!

What Makes Akademis Stand Out?

  • We remain your trusted contact throughout your child’s stay, well beyond the placement process.
  • We provide support with guardianshipvisa applications and recognition of qualifications within the German school system.
  • We offer fully tailored advice. Our school recommendations are unique to each child and can run to 40 pages in length.
  • Families receive our 30+ page boarding school guide, packed with practical tips and insights.
  • We prepare your child thoroughly for entrance exams and interviews to maximise their chances of success.
  • We arrange school visits, ensuring you have the opportunity to experience each school first-hand.

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.

Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.

Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.

We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
