Repton School – A Classic English Boarding School for Sports Enthusiasts

This traditionally English boarding school makes the hearts of sports lovers beat faster. Pupils here are supported by mentors throughout their sporting careers, both during and beyond their time at school – and the same level of care is, of course, extended to those less sport-inclined.

Located in the heart of England, the historic Repton School boasts a long and distinguished history, which is immediately evident as you step through the original 12th-century priory gate upon arrival.

What we particularly love about Repton is the way it combines down-to-earth values with elite-level sport. Pupils are not forced to choose between their academic and sporting ambitions – the timetable allows enough space for both. Traditional English sports such as cricket and hockey are especially popular. As the leading co-educational hockey school in the UK, Repton has won at least one national hockey championship every year since 2005. Equally impressive is the thriving participation in the Combined Cadet Force, with around 200 pupils involved.

Repton School in Detail

Sport

Repton takes pride in its impressive collection of medals across its six focus areas in sports: hockey, football, cricket, swimming, tennis, and netball. Alumni go on to Ivy League universities, National League teams, and even Olympic squads – in 2016, Repton graduates brought home three gold medals from the Rio Olympics. Sporting activity is seamlessly integrated into the school day, ensuring every pupil finds time to train at least three times a week. Those on the High Performance Sport Programme also benefit from dedicated personal mentors who help them develop technically, tactically, physically, and in their overall lifestyle. Their well-being is supported through physiotherapy and rehabilitation programmes.

Academic

Excellence is one of the school’s core values, reflected in the academic results: in 2021, 64% of A-Level grades were A*–A. This success is underpinned by expert, individualised support. Every pupil also gains valuable digital skills through the Information Communication Technology course. Despite the ancient buildings, Repton is equipped with cutting-edge facilities: the science centre, for example, features a lecture theatre with a 3D projector that many universities would envy.

The Arts

‘Art for all’ is the ethos of the creative arts department, whose doors remain open to everyone during the week and at weekends. The rich artistic programme includes graphic art, theatre, design, and music, with professional artists – some of whom have their studios on campus – offering close guidance. Pupils’ artworks are proudly displayed in the two on-campus galleries. The purpose-built music building, complete with a fully equipped recording studio and composition suite, provides a stage for musical talent. Pupils also take part in leading, planning, and performing in theatre productions, whether on stage or behind the scenes.

Leisure

Saturday evenings see students enjoying a lively social programme with their housemates, including concerts, film nights, discos, and balls – with plenty of opportunities to mix with students from other houses too. Sundays offer a wide choice of activities: from cinema trips or shopping to indoor climbing, paintball, or clay pigeon shooting. England’s second-largest city, Birmingham, is just an hour away and always worth a visit. Many of these activities are offered every weekend, allowing pupils to shape their free time exactly as they wish.

What Makes Akademis Stand Out?

  • We remain your trusted contact throughout your child’s stay, well beyond the placement process.
  • We provide support with guardianshipvisa applications and recognition of qualifications within the German school system.
  • We offer fully tailored advice. Our school recommendations are unique to each child and can run to 40 pages in length.
  • Families receive our 30+ page boarding school guide, packed with practical tips and insights.
  • We prepare your child thoroughly for entrance exams and interviews to maximise their chances of success.
  • We arrange school visits, ensuring you have the opportunity to experience each school first-hand.

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.

Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.

Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.

We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
