Strathallan School shines with outstanding sport and outdoor opportunities. In true Scottish style, the school is down-to-earth and friendly — you can even learn to play the bagpipes here!

Located near Perth, Strathallan sits on a sprawling campus of over 60 hectares of green space and playing fields, surrounded by gentle, wooded hills. Pupils enjoy close-knit support within a strong community.

The Headmaster always has an open door and embodies the school’s grounded, caring ethos. Most teachers live on campus, take part in extracurricular activities, and happily step in to help if a pupil needs support — even in the evening. This level of commitment, combined with excellent sport and outdoor facilities — such as its own rugby academy and a purpose-built clay pigeon shooting range — makes Strathallan one of the finest boarding schools in Scotland.

Strathallan School in Detail

Sport and Outdoors

Strathallan is a powerhouse of sport. Alongside traditional team sports, there are superb opportunities for fencing, golf, and sailing. The school’s dedicated Rugby Academy has already produced more than 40 international players. Facilities are extensive and modern, with numerous pitches, a sports hall, and fitness equipment. Outdoor enthusiasts can embrace nature through climbing and canoeing. Strathallan is also the only school in Scotland with its own purpose-built clay pigeon shooting range. Indoors or out, passionate athletes in all disciplines receive outstanding support.

The Creative Arts

Strathallan’s creative offering is truly impressive. Pupils can join over 25 musical groups spanning every genre, and the annual musical showcase is a highlight on the calendar. There’s even a bagpipe band! Dancers will feel very much at home here too, with lessons in Scottish Highland Dance, Country, Ballet, Jazz, and more. The school also boasts a dedicated building for the visual arts, where students are encouraged to express themselves through graphic design, printmaking, textiles, photography, and animation.

Academic Life

Academically, Strathallan offers an exceptionally broad curriculum combined with close, personal support. Teachers come across as approachable rather than authoritarian, and their relationships with pupils are warm and friendly. Subjects range from Art, Geography, and Computer Science to Spanish and French, with teaching that emphasises project work and practical application. A unique feature is the school’s exchange programmes with partner schools in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Excellent results are reflected in their strong A-Level performance: in 2021, 67% of pupils achieved A*–A grades.

Enrichment and Leisure

An extensive range of afternoon clubs allows pupils to deepen their interests, discover new skills, and enjoy exciting activities. With over 80 extracurricular options — from debating, badminton, and indoor climbing to the jazz band and Duke of Edinburgh Award — boredom is simply not an option. Regular study trips across Britain and Europe also feature, and every year a group of pupils and teachers travel to Nairobi to support local charity projects. Even at weekends, the spirit of adventure continues with film marathons, group cooking, and board games fostering friendships and creating a genuine family atmosphere.

Conclusion: Strathallan School

Strathallan is a sporty, family-oriented boarding school with a grounded ethos.

However, it’s by no means the only academically and creatively well-balanced school with an excellent sports programme. We strongly recommend exploring other English boarding schools too. Please do get in touch with us for advice. Thanks to our long-standing relationships with the schools, we can offer authentic insights and help you find the right fit for your child.

On our Boarding Schools in England page, you’ll find an overview.

Benefit from:

  • authentic first-hand insights
  • strong connections with admissions offices
  • years of experience in placements
  • support with visa queries

We’re confident that together we’ll find the perfect school for your child!

What Makes Akademis Stand Out?

  • We remain your trusted contact throughout your child’s stay, well beyond the placement process.
  • We provide support with guardianshipvisa applications and recognition of qualifications within the German school system.
  • We offer fully tailored advice. Our school recommendations are unique to each child and can run to 40 pages in length.
  • Families receive our 30+ page boarding school guide, packed with practical tips and insights.
  • We prepare your child thoroughly for entrance exams and interviews to maximise their chances of success.
  • We arrange school visits, ensuring you have the opportunity to experience each school first-hand.

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.

Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.

Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.

We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
