TASIS is a welcoming, modern IB boarding school just outside London, with an American touch and an excellent extracurricular programme.
The American School in England was founded in 1976 and is a leading co-educational day and boarding school in the Greater London area. It sits on a beautiful campus in Surrey, close to all the vibrant and dynamic opportunities that a city like London has to offer.
What makes this school special is the chance to immerse yourself not just in the IB programme, but also in the American curriculum and culture. The extracurricular activities have a distinctly American flavour, which really sets this boarding school apart from others in England. The atmosphere, with over 80 nationalities and 30 languages spoken on campus, is strikingly international yet still very British. The buildings are impressively modern — even boasting an IT department entirely sponsored by Samsung, with the CEO himself attending the opening.
TASIS offers the best of both worlds – America and the UK.

TASIS in Detail
Community
We experienced the boarding community here as especially warm and welcoming. A wide range of activities help foster strong bonds. Regular outings to theatre productions, concerts, sporting events, shopping trips in the West End, as well as outdoor adventures such as mountain biking, hiking, and challenge courses all bring students together.
Pupils are also encouraged to get involved in the vibrant visual and performing arts department, team sports or fitness options, charitable projects, and a multitude of clubs and other extracurricular activities — all of which nurture valuable life skills like leadership and teamwork.
Sociable events for the whole family underline the school’s warmth: a welcome picnic at the start of term, “Trunk or Treat,” and even a spring fundraiser are just some examples.
Creative Offerings
The art and music departments are modern, offering an inspiring space for artists of all kinds. Throughout the year, numerous musical evenings, concerts, theatre productions, art and photography exhibitions, and dance performances take place frequently.
Students can choose from a range of music courses, including choir, chamber ensemble, jazz band, and an introduction to music theory.
Budding filmmakers also find everything they could wish for here — filmmaking at TASIS is a unique, collaborative discipline that provides an excellent opportunity to develop organisational skills, positive communication, and personal reflection. Students have access to an outstanding selection of professional equipment and benefit from the school’s own iMac and MacBook Pro editing suites.
Academics
Students can pursue either the IB Diploma or Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The academic year follows the American model, divided into two semesters rather than three terms.
AP courses include subjects such as Chinese, macro- and microeconomics, statistics, and American history. In the IB, options include Russian, digital society, and theatre studies.
An average class size of 12–15 students allows for optimal individual support — something reflected in the results: 50% of graduates go on to study in the United States, including at top universities like the University of Chicago and Boston University.
In the IB, students achieved an average score of 35 points in 2022, with one student reaching an impressive 44 out of 45.
Sport and Leisure
The school offers sports such as basketball, golf, rugby, swimming, and sailing — but it’s the American sports that really stand out, including baseball, lacrosse, softball, and cheerleading.
School teams compete with local and international schools and participate in tournaments across Europe. Outside lessons, the school strives to offer an enriching and challenging experience to complement the high-quality education delivered in the classroom.
The leisure programme includes riding, chess, kickboxing, and theatre, while more unusual clubs — like biotechnology or Dungeons and Dragons — also welcome new members with open arms.
TASIS School Fees
Fees at TASIS are £28,491 per semester, or £56,982 per academic year.

Our Visit
When we visited TASIS, we were struck by the warmth and dedication of everyone we met. We felt immediately at home and can only imagine how wonderful it must be to spend one’s school years here. We were also impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities — particularly the striking technology centre, entirely sponsored by Samsung. We also found it fascinating that the school even grows its own vegetables for the dining hall. Cool, isn’t it?

Every boarding school has its own character and ethos. Having personally visited more than 100 schools, we understand these nuances. We also work with schools that do not pay commission, ensuring that our advice remains independent and always in the best interest of your child.
Our roots lie in the UK. For years, we have placed 200–300 families annually into British boarding schools. While our portfolio now includes schools beyond Britain, the UK remains at the heart of what we do.
Our tailored approach results in exceptional acceptance rates. For example, in 2022/23, all seven students we placed at the highly selective Malvern College received offers – a 100% success rate.
We arrange for prospective families to speak with our current students to hear first-hand accounts of life at a UK boarding school.
